Congratulations on your new tattoo! Proper aftercare of your tattoo is crucial to helping you enjoy it for years to come. Many of your friends will have their own opinions and advice on how you should take care of your tattoo.

We’re not putting them down, but we’ve been in the tattoo business for over 40 years. We’ve tried everything, and this is what we’ve found to work best overall to not only heal your tattoo but do it with the best quality colors as well. Try our way, stick with it, and we believe you’ll be happy with the results.

  • You’ll leave the shop with one of two types of bandages, a non-stick or Sanidex. Leave it on as long as your artist says to do so (typically this will be overnight for the normal nonstick bandage, 5 days for Sanidex clear bandage).
  • When you remove the bandage, wash gently with cool water and mild soap. Do not scrub.
  • Gently pat dry with a clean towel.
  • Sparingly apply non-scented white skin lotion, just enough to moisten the tattoo not enough to leave it wet. You do not want anything greasy or thick like ointment, as it will not allow the skin to breathe and will leach out color making the end result duller than when you use a lotion that allows breathing.
  • Do this 3 to 5 times a day as needed to keep lightly moistened. Until all peeling is over. (do not pick at crusting, or scratch when it itches)
  • No prolonged sun exposure directly on your tattoo or swimming during this period of time.
  • Be careful around pets with your fresh tattoo, always wash your hands before touching your tattoo while it’s healing. We’ve made sure everything was done in a clean sterile way. Universal precautions have been followed. Now it’s up to you to keep it clean and prevent infection.

When all peeling is done, we recommend using the lotion at least once a day for a few more weeks as the skin is rejuvenating. After this time, swimming is now ok. Sun exposure is as well, though we recommend sunscreen, as the sun will make your tattoo fade faster.

Thank you for allowing us to do your tattoo. Enjoy the art.
